"The Girls" went to Destin for a weekend. Mom, Audrey, Julie, and I went to Destin with Todd (we made him speak in a high pitched voice and wear a bra - trust me, he wished he had stayed home) shared a one room condo. We had a large time on the beach, the pool, and at Seaside, FL. We learned that Audrey HATES sand, but doesn't mind some big splashy waves. Click here

This table has been floating around the family for awhile. Amanda played with it at her Grandmother's house and I got it at some point when I was in college. Now, Audrey has it and we've recently put her doll house on it. Aunt Julie found the chairs. Audrey LOVES it. Click here

As of the 21st Audrey is 15 months old. We had a doctor's appointment yesterday morning and everything was right on schedule. She has a vocabulary of about 10 words, throws balls, feeds herself, can pull shorts off once they're down to her calves and can put an arm in a shirt. She also can point to her ears, which she even demonstrated for Dr. Smith. She doesn't have much stranger fear. Mostly she just has a little "I'm cute and shy" act that she pulls. She's also off the bottle and a big fan of sippie cups. She weighed 27lbs and was 32.5" tall which puts her in the 95-98 percentile, so she's a big girl. I looked it up and she's basically the size of a 21 month old.

Robert and I were just relaxing one day when we heard a PSSSHHHHH sound coming from the hallway. Then we saw Daisy run into the kitchen and knew something was up. I reluctantly walked into the spare bedroom and found this...
That would be a punctured can of shaving cream. Upon further investigation I found this...
So, what do you do when your otherwise perfect dog decides to chew a can of shaving cream? You take pictures and blog about it.

Audrey is starting to feed herself. On occasion, we give her plain yogurt and a spoon. Here's a few pics of how well she does. pics

Some of you will remember my friend AJ (or Amber). We met at State and have kinda-sorta kept in touch. She's always been tons of fun. She's absolutely hilarious and brilliant to boot. We were always doing something weird and crazy... nothing was ever off the table. My day was never complete until I got her laughing so hard that she started to snort. AJ had her ankles crushed in a car wreck in high school. She had trouble with her ankles sometimes, but she never let it slow her down. Her ankle problems eventually put her in a wheelchair. In order to get her active life back again, she had one of her legs amputated below the knee. In true AJ style, she rode a bike with other amputees across the US in 2006. She recently had her 2nd leg removed and is on the ride again. You can go to http://amputeesacrossamerica.com and read the journal entries which are pee-your-pants funny. I can't believe I even know someone like her. She's amazing.

As if it wasn't obvious enough to everyone that I was a mother (driving a station wagon, carrying the huge 'mommy' purse, ever present baby food/hand prints on my clothes, and knowing where to find the cheapest milk and diapers in town) I've taken it up a notch. During recent trips to the pool this summer I was disappointed in how my pre-baby swimsuit looked on my post-baby body. I weigh less than I did when before Audrey, but my body just isn't he same. So, I decided to finally redeem some Belks gift cards and go swimsuit shopping. I left the store with an official 'mommy' swimsuit, complete with the 'I'm a mom' skirt. It was cuter than all the others and I'm sure I'll feel very comfortable in the baby pool with all the other moms in their skirted mom swimsuits. Just someone please shoot me if I start wearing jumpers.

We've had Daisy (formerly known as Georgia) for 3 months now. I think we've all decided she's not a dog at all. She's actually an 85 lb chicken in a bulldog costume. She's still very timid, but she's slowly coming around. Her favorite morning spot is under Robert's desk. She has her bed under there and can look out the window... and of course she can keep a close eye on where Robert is. Her afternoon spot is her bed in the living room. We read to Audrey and play with blocks. Of course, there's lots of attention for her there. Audrey loves to give her hugs and kisses. Audrey even says Daisy (she's not saying Mommy yet) and has learned to say 'No' when Daisy tries to get Audrey's cheerios and Daisy obeys... sometimes. We're still working on that. It's hard taking orders from a 13 month old. In the evenings Daisy and I relax and discuss puppies/kids and motherhood. She still acts very maternal, especially with Audrey.

Yes, I'm completely aware it's May. One morning in April, I took Audrey out to play in the rain puddles. She had a grand old time. our pics

At our doctor's appointment last Friday the doctor did a test for anemia. He said they usually do it every year or so. Apparently they do a CBC or something (I know I was told, but you have a tendency to miss things when you're wrangling a 12 month old) and some blood cell thing was up. She wasn't anemic but she was fighting off a bug of some sort. The doctor said since she hadn't been sick recently she would probably get sick "by Sunday afternoon" and it was a virus and not to worry. Sunday came and went and I thought 'that virus wasn't so bad... no worse than teething really'. I spoke too soon.

Audrey had a rough day yesterday. She got four shots and a finger prick. She's off the charts in weight and height again and was easily the biggest 1 year old in the doctor's office (there were 4). I was shocked to see what a "normal" one year old looked like! I knew she was big for her age, but wow. She's 27 lbs and 31" and demonstrated all her 1 year old skills for Dr. Smith perfectly. She said 'bye bye', uh-oh, and no. She clapped and played peek-a-boo, and then of course cried when she got the shots. |
